Steroid sulfatase (STS) cleaves sulphate groups from steroid hormones. In humans, STS deficiency is associated with X-linked ichthyosis, an increased predisposition to neurodevelopmental and mood conditions (including Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, autism, depression and anxiety), and cardiac arrhythmia risk.
