Sandra Carvalho , PhD.

Profile
I am a clinician-scientist with over 19 years of experience in clinical neuropsychology and translational neuroscience. Currently, I serve as an assistant professor with habilitation in the Department of Basic Psychology at the University of Minho, Portugal. My academic path includes a PhD in psychology, with a focus on emotional psychophysiology, and postdoctoral training in clinical neuroscience and research methodology at Harvard Medical School. I am board-certified in clinical psychology by the Portuguese Psychologists Association (Ordem dos Psicólogos Portugueses, OPP).

My clinical and research work is deeply intertwined, particularly in the study of adult ADHD. I am especially interested in understanding the behavioral and neurobiological mechanisms of ADHD and how executive functioning contributes to symptom expression and treatment response. My goal is to bridge science and practice, improving interventions through a better understanding of cognitive functioning in adult ADHD.

Throughout my career, I have coordinated clinical trials in neurorehabilitation and psychiatric conditions and have developed expertise in non-invasive brain stimulation, with international certifications from UCL, Göttingen, and Harvard. I remain committed to advancing evidence-based clinical care through rigorous research and innovation.
